Every bride dreads rain on her wedding day. That’s standard! Despite Essex being one of the sunniest counties in the UK, it still has its fair share of rain. In the last three weeks, 3 of the weddings I have shot have been graced with extremely heavy downpours!
Above is the gorgeous bride, Emily and her new husband, Joe. After the ceremony at St Pauls, Bentley Common it rained so heavily that it wasn’t possible to do any group shots outside the church. Instead, we created this fun image of the newly weds, as Joe carried his new wife to the car.
The group shots were created later that evening at their reception venue, once the rain had died down.

It was Bradley and Jaynes special day, and when the heavens opened, I positioned them by the door and embraced the british weather!
There is no need to be afraid of the rain on your wedding day. In some countries it is even considered to be good luck! ….and one thing is for sure, it has the potential to provide some brilliant photographs.
Finally, I have this image from last week at All Saints Church in Terling, Essex. Once again, we were unable to pose the guests outside as it was raining too heavily, instead we did some inside the church. Afterwards, we made use of the rain and got some beautiful shots of the bride and groom in this stunning vintage car.
So, in conclusion, DO NOT be afraid of the rain. Groups shots can always be done later on in the day, or they can be done inside the venue rather than outside. There is always a plan B to be made. Embrace the British weather.
